Michael Iannaccone, president of MDI Investments, tells SNL Financial that interest in traditional deals is growing. But he added that lingering real estate woes make it difficult for would-be buyers to assess losses they would have to absorb. This is impeding many buyers and stalling activity, he said. “Real estate still needs to improve,” Iannaccone said. Sellers seek prices based primarily on franchise value, while buyers want steep discounts for future credit losses. “So while the interest is there,” he said, “often the math doesn’t work.”
